A wintry trip to New York
On the first weekend of the new year, we swathed ourselves in woolies, and set off for New York, New York, a helluva town, the Bronx is up and the Battery's down, we wanted to be a part of it: New York, New York. Though as we entered the endless grimy corridors of the grim city, I remembered how much I actually happen to NOT like New York, most particularly in the bleak mid winter, earth hard as iron, water like a stone, and no garment thick enough to withstand the wintry blast.
However, we eventually made it through the howling wilderness to Jacob's door, and were greeted with warmth and generous hospitality. And I add with great pride that EVEN THOUGH it was New Year's Day--a day traditionally given over to lying on the sofa with a hot towel pressed to the forehead--Jacob had cleaned the house and invited a score of his friends over to party with us that evening. A swell event! And despite knowing full well the grim consequences (due to very recent experience), everyone cheerfully ladled in a great deal more than the medically approved alcohol dosage. Fine times were had! The ladies danced and played with each other's hair! The gentlemen showed off their cameras! And most of the mess was cleaned up before we went to bed. Amazing how many glasses 15-20 people can scatter over the place in the course of a festive evening.

Why we really came to New York
Though we dearly love seeing the kids, the real reason we came to NY in the bitter freezing month of January when all a sensible body wants to do is stay warm at home, the REAL reason is, that we came for Wedding #5. My dear friend Julie Perlman's daughter Sarah was getting married! A splendid event! Pictures available here .
