This was inspired by that lovely movie of women's faces fading into each other. It was very beautiful, but it made me think of what was missing: the wholeness and solidity of the people portrayed (not to mention, men).I spent a lot of time trolling through the vast treasure of wonderful images available online, and was so taken by all the forthright gazes of our ancestors, staring back at me. Thousands of years ago, there were people just like us, vital, alive, wanting to make a mark on the world. Incising on limestone, sculpting marble, painting on canvas, modeling clay--human beings need to make a record of themselves, the beautiful human form, the amazing human experience.
